Live jazz restaurants are making a come-back as diners begin to cotton on to the fact that a night out doesn’t necessarily have to end with dessert. Now you can have your cake, sorbet or cheese platter and eat it too! Up until now, evening entertainment in the Franschhoek Valley was limited to festival activities and the odd private concert, which is why the management team at Genot decided to give locals and visitors a taste of after-dinner entertainment that harks back to a more glamorous yesteryear.
There was a time when ladies and gentlemen would venture out after dark, dressed to the nines, for evenings of glamour and fun that inevitably culminated in dancing that carried on till the break of dawn. This is what we strive to recreate with our live jazz evenings at Genot every Friday and Saturday night. Patrons are more than welcome to dine elsewhere and join us afterward for after-dinner drinks and dancing; or they may choose to go the whole hog and sit down to our rustic, comfort food before the festivities commence. Whatever you choose to do, just make sure you get here!
The perfect setting for a romantic date, a get-together with friends or an evening out with your older children, Genot is fast becoming a Franschhoek hotspot - exactly as we intended it to. Even when the first plans for the building were still being drawn up, we already envisioned a place where friends and family can come together to celebrate in a style that has all but fell by the wayside; and we are proud to say that we have succeeded in fulfilling that vision.
