Klein Genot get mention in House & Garden
This is why we were tickled pink when Genot was featured in the June issue of House & Garden, alongside other elegant eateries that offer ‘dining in the vines’. The write-up made mention of our elegant bar, fire-side area and mouthwatering South African dishes with a contemporary twist. We’re glad they noticed - after all, every single detail of the restaurant’s construction, management and menu has been carefully considered, rehashed and gone over with a fine-toothed comb until we were satisfied that we would be able to offer even the most seasoned gourmet something they would care to write home about.
When we decided to add a restaurant to the repertoire of Klein Genot offerings we’re sure there were some people who had their misgivings. After all, you cannot throw a dessert spoon in Franschhoek without hitting some sort of dining establishment. These critics were probably asking themselves if the Franschhoek restaurant industry wasn’t already saturated. Well, see, that’s why it’s a good thing that Genot isn’t merely a restaurant. Allow us to explain. The dictionary entry for the word ‘restaurant’ reads as follows:
“[res-ter-uh nt, -tuh-rahnt, -trahnt], noun-. An establishment where meals are served to customers”
If you look carefully at this definition, you will notice that there is nowhere there is any mention of any of the following:
- Dishes with subtle flavor nuances that lure, entice and seduce the senses.
- The location of the terrace that affords diners a view of a secluded part of the Franschhoek Valley drenched in buttery sunlight or silken moonshine (depending of course on the time of day).
- The dedication our floor- and kitchen staff members bring to their respective tasks.
- That particular feeling of bliss you experience when you sit back from a sumptuous meal.
See, this is why we don’t refer to Genot as a restaurant, but rather as an experience. For the time you’re here we don’t wish to merely feed you, we want to take you on a culinary journey that will remind you why grown men are capable of weeping over a perfect crème brûlée.
But don’t take our word for it - pack up the spouse, head out to our Winelands hotel and try to prove us wrong. We look forward to putting our mouthwatering cuisine where our mouth is.
