Our Franschhoek Restaurant

If elegant dining with the glamorous ambience of yesteryear is what you seek, you have come to the right Franschhoek restaurant. Although relatively new on the gastronomic scene in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley, here at Genot we realise that it is important to move with the times, which is why we have shifted our culinary focus slightly to bring you an even more exciting dining experience.

Angie and Joey Diamond have always thought it a pity that the stylish Grill Room concept that held sway in the 1970’s had died out and, when they sat down to decide in which direction to steer Genot next, decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to breathe new life into the notion and use it as inspiration for their Franschhoek restaurant’s reinvention. Going forward, diners can expect retro dishes, such as prawn cocktails, seafood bisque, escargot and Chateaubriand, to grace the pages of the Genot menu. Please take your time and view our current restaurant menu.

However, drawing up a lovely menu is all good and well, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating after all - which is why Angie and Joey have sourced only the very best chefs and waiters from nearby Cape Town, and further afield as far as Malawi and Mozambique. The kitchen will be headed up by Chef Patrick, while front of house affairs rest in the competent hands of Host Jean Roux (better known as JR). Two wine stewards have also been invited on board and will take care of wine service. The wine list has been expanded and now includes a selection of some of South Africa’s best-loved estates, including Bouchard Finlayson, Meerlust, Vergelegen and many more.

Furthermore, in accordance with the Grill Room theme, Genot now also offers an extensive range of cocktails, aged cognacs and fine single malt whiskeys to be enjoyed at the end of your meal. Venture to the cigar bar after dinner and partake in this elegant ritual that will always conjure up images of Old Hollywood. Alternatively, skip dinner and simply join us for a nightcap to round off the perfect evening out in the Franschhoek Wine Valley.

Anyone who has ever stepped foot onto the Klein Genot grounds will have to agree that such a lovely area is the perfect location for one of the renowned Cape picnic spots. Yielding to literally hundreds of requests from visitors to make informal al fresco dining an option, the team at Klein Genot has now prepared twenty dedicated picnic spots along the estate’s riverbank for this express purpose. Priced at R128 per adult and R64 per child under the age of twelve, Klein Genot picnic baskets include a cooler bag, picnic crockery and a blanket. As for the food, you will be treated to a range of farm-fresh dishes, including snoek- and chicken liver pâtés, freshly baked ciabatta bread and melba toast, roasted chicken, lamb and beef, three cheeses, a French salad and a delicious homemade brownie to end your feast. Waiters will be on hand to make sure that you are well-supplied of cool beverages and to clear once you are done.

Why not make a day of it and come join us on the Estate for a spot of wine tasting, a meal and a stroll along the river? Our Franschhoek restaurant is dedicated to introducing visitors to the many splendors of the lost art of elegant dining and we would love it if you would join us on this culinary journey.
